The Concacaf Gold Cup presents the U.S. men’s national team with its first competition soccer games since losing to Trinidad & Tobago in its final 2018 World Cup qualifier in October 2017.

The USMNT is defending champions, having won the 2017 Gold Cup with a 2-1 victory over Jamaica at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. Since then, there’s been upheaval with the U.S. men’s national soccer team. Then-coach Bruce Arena resigned after the loss to Trinidad & Tobago. After a year with Dave Sarachan as the interim head coach, U.S. Soccer hired Gregg Berhalter — who’d previously coached the Columbus Crew in Major League Soccer — as the new head coach. 

The 16-team tournament largely will be played at venues across the United States, with the final taking place on July 7 at Chicago’s Soldier Field.
