SportsPulse: Roger Federer is into the title match at Wimbledon after a semifinal victory over longtime rival Rafael Nadal. USA TODAY Sports’ Dan Wolken breaks down Federer’s showdown in the final against Novak Djokovic.
The 2019 Wimbledon men’s singles final is set for Sunday, and it’s sure to be a match that will go down in history.
No. 1 ranked Novak Djokovic will face third-ranked and No. 2 seed Roger Federer on Centre Court — their third finals matchup at the All England Club.
Federer has only lost three Wimbledon finals, and two of those losses came to Djokovic. In two highly competitive matches, Djokovic defeated Federer in a five-set marathon in 2014 and a four-setter in 2015. The pair also met at Wimbledon in the 2012 semifinals, which Federer won in four sets.
While Federer is regarded as one of the greatest to ever hold a racquet, Djokovic comes in as the reigning champion, and he’s won eight of their last 10 matches against each other.
