ORLANDO — Rory McIlroy has come up with a way to cool off Adam Scott, the hottest golfer on the planet.
He just needs help from the rulers of the game.
“I think we should bring the anchor putting back,” McIlroy said Wednesday at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill. “I was all for getting rid of it. Now I’m all for keeping it.”
McIlroy was joking, of course, but right now Scott is the one with the target on his back after finishing runner-up in the Northern Trust Open and then winning the Honda Classic and the World Golf Championships-Cadillac Championship in three weeks.
When the ban went into effect this year, Scott put away the broomstick putter he anchored to his chest. Left with little choice but to go with a conventional-length putter, the Aussie has turned out just fine.
“He’s obviously put a lot of work in with the putter, and it’s paid off big time,” McIlroy said. “Adam has been one of the best players in the world for a long time, and great players are going to get on runs like…
