Around the NBA: Picks for NBA awards _ and league champion

Combing over the NBA awards this season finds more no-brainers than nail-biters.

Most Valuable Player, Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year — there’s about as much suspense in those awards as a Scooby-Doo episode.

But there is plenty of intrigue surrounding the Coach of the Year and Sixth Man, with no wrong answer in either race.

AP Basketball Writers Brian Mahoney, Tim Reynolds and Jon Krawczynski share their picks for several end-of-season awards. They also take a stab at predicting the NBA Finals, which seem destined for a rematch.

One certainty about awards season: even in the categories that seem unanimous, there’s always a way to generate heated debate.

The final week of the regular season is highlighted by the Golden State Warriors going for their record-setting 73rd victory against Memphis on Wednesday night, the same night Kobe Bryant will play his final game when the Los Angeles Lakers wrap up the season at home against the Utah Jazz.

But why wait until the regular season is over to get the debate started?
