Discouraging injury news keeps coming for the Buffalo Bills.
Wide receiver Sammy Watkins has suffered a broken foot, the team confirmed Monday. Watkins had a screw inserted into his foot, according to multiple reports, and is targeting a return by the start of the regular season.
Watkins led the Bills with 60 catches for 1,047 receiving yards and nine touchdowns in 13 games last season. The former No. 4 overall pick missed time with ankle and calf injuries in 2015.
The Bills’ offense would take a serious hit if its No. 1 receiver is sidelined during the regular season. Buffalo ranked just No. 28 in passing offense last season and averaged the second-fewest attempts per game.
Earlier Monday, the Bills announced first-round pick Shaq Lawson will undergo shoulder surgery Tuesday.
