Browns expected to hire Gregg Williams as new defensive coordinator

The Cleveland Browns didn’t make changes at the top after their 1-15 finish. But other changes are coming. 

The Browns are expected to fire defensive coordinator Ray Horton and replace him with Gregg Williams, a person with knowledge of the situation confirmed to USA TODAY Sports on Saturday night. 

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the Browns had not finalized the changes, which had been speculated on by multiple media outlets since the season ended.

CBS Sports first reported they’d stuck a deal with Williams, 58, who spent the past three seasons with the Los Angeles Rams and was unlikely to be retained after Jeff Fisher’s firing. He’s perhaps best known as a centerpiece in the New Orleans Saints bounty scandal. 

Horton, 56, came to Cleveland last year along with coach Hue Jackson.
