Major League Baseball announced Thursday that it is suspending Houston Astros outfielder Jake Marisnick for two games as punishment for his violent collision at the plate with Jonathan Lucroy on Sunday.

Marisnick crashed into the Los Angeles Angels catcher while trying to score on a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning of a tie game. He was called out for interference following the collision. Lucroy suffered a concussion and broken nose on the play. 

“After thoroughly reviewing the play from all angles, I have concluded that Jake’s actions warrant discipline,” MLB chief baseball officer Joe Torre said in a statement. “While I do not believe that Jake intended to injure Jonathan, the contact he initiated in his attempt to score violated…
