The Spurs had a close 110-106 loss to the Trail Blazers on Wednesday night. San Antonio had a chance in the final seconds to try to come out with the home win, but the basketball gods really didn’t want it to happen.
Manu Ginobili had some spectacularly awful luck after making a bad inbounds pass with five seconds left.
Here’s the pass that led to Ginobili being fouled:
The good news after that was that Ginobili did get fouled, so he had a shot at two free throws with the Spurs trailing by three points.
Ginobili tried to sink the first one. He missed and was clearly disappointed in himself. After missing the first, he was determined to purposefully miss the second one so they’d have a chance at perhaps a 3-pointer to tie … but he made it.
So yeah, he missed the free throw he meant to make, and he made the one he meant to miss. Here’s a clip of the moment:
