ST. LOUIS — Jack Maher is now a historic name for Nashville SC.
The MLS newcomers selected the 20-year-old Indiana center back Thursday with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft.
Accompanied by chief scout Chance Myers, general manager Mike Jacobs led some 30 Nashville SC supporters in traveling to Maher’s home in Caseyville, Illinois, to tell him he was selected.
Maher had a summer trial with Nashville SC this past season. Jacobs said all other college player trials lasted three days. Maher impressed so much that he trained with Nashville SC for two weeks.
“I just automatically fell in love with the city,” Maher said. “I went around town to see the culture and atmosphere. From day one, (I) just had this love for Nashville and I was hoping I got picked (by Nashville) the entire time.”
