Making an acquistion at the trade deadline is a calculated risk.
Do a lot of research, hope for chemistry to form quickly and really hope it carries over into a long playoff run.
So far this year, so good.
Four players who moved in the days before Monday’s deadline have scored in their debut with their new team and another three had two-assist games. A look:
Paul Stastny, Winnipeg Jets
The Jets reportedly first pursued Derick Brassard, but he ended up with the Pittsburgh Penguins with a big helping hand from the Vegas Golden Knights.
But Stastny, who had 40 points before the trade, was a solid acquisition. He slotted onto the second line with Nikolaj Ehlers and Patrik Laine and chipped in a goal and an assist.
Tommy Wingels, Boston Bruins
