Nico Hischier’s injury woes continue for the Devils.
The team announced prior to the game Thursday against the Rangers that Hischier is “week-to-week” with a sinus fracture. The Devils captain was hit in the face by a puck on Saturday in the loss to the Capitals.
Hischier has only played five games this season due to a leg injury he suffered before training camp.
The search for answers began inside Lindy Ruff’s office on Wednesday.
Ruff called his leaders there to exchange ideas and figure out how to get the Devils back on track. It’s the first time Ruff held such a meeting this season, but one he felt was necessary after losing for the sixth time in seven games.
Damon Severson said he was one of five players in the discussion with Kyle Palmieri, Travis Zajac, P.K. Subban and Jack Hughes. Hischier was missing from the group as he is currently in concussion protocol.
“It was a good meeting. It was productive,” Severson said. “There was no real negativity. It’s just a matter of trying to find a way out of it.”
