Reality check: Why your team will fail (East)

The Penguins look to repeat as Stanley Cup champions, but there are plenty of team in the East looking to unseat them.

Taylor Hall is in New Jersey. Shea Weber now calls Montreal home, though P.K. Subban is now in the West. Pavel Datsyuk fled for the Kontinental Hockey League, and with him could go the Detroit Red Wings’ playoff hopes. The Pittsburgh Penguins are trying to become the first repeat champion since 1998.

Early October offers a new beginning for every team in the NHL, and the parity in the league means that even your wildest dreams are possible. But we’re here to keep those in check.

Boston Bruins: Defense needs an upgrade. Zdeno Chara turns 40 this season. The Bruins’ defense isn’t close to being as effective as it was when they won the Stanley Cup in 2011.
