A memorable year for Alex Morgan took a turn this week, as a patella stress reaction in her right knee will keep her out for the remainder of the National Women’s Soccer League regular season.  

The 30-year-old striker suffered the injury while en route to helping the U.S. women’s team capture the gold medal at the World Cup in France this summer. That didn’t stop Morgan from scoring six goals and winning the tournament’s Silver Boot, behind teammate and Gold Boot honoree Megan Rapinoe (plus delivering one memorable celebration).
